MirrorBit® NOR + ORNAND™ = a powerful combination for the Wireless Market

Handset manufacturers now have a scalable platform to design next-generation mobile phones

MirrorBit® ORNAND™ is a ground-breaking architecture created by Spansion™. The first product based on this new architecture, the 1Gb MirrorBit ORNAND MS device, is well-suited for data storage in wireless handsets, delivering a NAND interface and the compelling cost structure of traditional NAND solutions with the reliability and fast read performance of NOR Flash memory.

The powerful combination of MirrorBit ORNAND and high performance MirrorBit NOR 512-megabit Flash memory will empower handset OEMs to design their next generation phones operating at up to 133 Mhz to support more advanced multimedia functionality. Designed to complement Spansion’s MirrorBit ORNAND data storage with an XIP-based solution, the 512-megabit Flash product is member of the MirrorBit WS family portfolio. Members of the WS family can be combined with other devices such as MirrorBit ORNAND, bringing a full range of densities for code and data storage, from 64-megabits to 3-gigabits.

Using advanced Multiple Chip Packaging (MCP) and Package-on-Package (POP) technology, Spansion offers MirrorBit ORNAND Flash memory as part of a scalable handset memory system solution for a range of wireless handsets. To add functionality to standard entry-level phones, handset manufacturers can add MirrorBit ORNAND data storage to the MirrorBit NOR platform, thereby maintaining common software and reducing the time and effort to bring new phones to market.

With MirrorBit NOR for code execution and MirrorBit ORNAND for data storage, our solutions deliver a complete memory subsystem for a range of wireless handsets from basic, feature, high-end and smart phones.

By expanding the capability for handset manufacturers to offer more storage for content in phones and making it more cost effective for them to get phones supporting all subscriber needs to market, Spansion is enabling higher ARPU for operators and providing solutions to benefit the entire wireless ecosystem.
