Health and Safety

We take seriously our responsibility to provide a safe workplace for our employees, contractors, and visitors and a safe environment for our neighbors. Dedicated health and safety professionals at all of Spansion’s manufacturing facilities integrate health and safety programs into our operating culture. Our employees are trained to properly handle, store, and manage hazardous materials and operate manufacturing equipment associated with their job responsibilities.

Prevention is our primary focus for reducing occupational injuries and illnesses. We use a combination of engineering and administrative controls to prevent exposure to chemical and physical hazards as well as physical agents such as noise, lasers, and radiation. Beyond controls, we closely monitor potential injuries and near misses while quickly identifying and implementing appropriate corrective actions for all incidents. We share experiences and training materials, including materials for training special groups that manage natural disasters, medical emergencies and other incidents.

In 2007, our occupational injury and illness case rate decreased 15 percent when compared to 2006. We attribute the decrease to our focus on prevention and attention to corrective action implementation.

The decline in our occupational injury and illness case rate in 2007 is complemented by a decrease in the severity of occupational injuries and/or illnesses. We experienced a 45 percent decline in our Lost Day case rate in 2007 when compared to 2006.
