Robert Melendres
Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer

Robert Melendres is an executive vice president and Spansion's chief legal officer. His current leadership responsibilities include legal and corporate development. Melendres brings 14 years high tech executive industry expertise to Spansion®, including extensive experience in all aspects of corporate law including structuring and negotiating strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions, and technology transactions with global industry leaders in the telecommunications, electronics, computers, storage systems, and microelectronics markets.

It was Melendres’ wide-ranging work in such varied capacities that brought him to Spansion in 2005. He transitioned to Spansion from AMD where he had served most recently as corporate vice president of business development.

Prior to AMD, Melendres was the founder and manager of a medical devices company; president and general counsel of WebGain Inc.; director of Worldwide Contracts and Business Practices for IBM; IBM legal counsel; supervisor of global sales and marketing organizations; and direct handler of issues concerning mergers and acquisitions, antitrust, securities, litigation, tax, corporate, employment, patent prosecution, intellectual property licensing and e-commerce.

Melendres holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California, Los Angeles and a juris doctorate from Harvard Law School.
