As the world's largest leading supplier of Flash memory, we understand that our products contribute to technologies driving social change. One such change is a heightened awareness of the environment impacts of products. Electronics products, in particular, have come under increased global scrutiny with respect to environmental impact, prompting a number of regulations in Europe and Asia. Our products support a wide range of customer specific markets such as hand-held/mobile electronics, computer, set-top boxes, networking, and automotive applications that are impacted by these regulations. We approach this challenge by working with our customers to proactively address new product and packaging requirements and by continuing to provide the innovation in the marketplace that has become expected for Spansion products.

At Spansion, we believe responsible products start with responsible materials, helping us meet or exceed customer expectations for product quality, reliability and performance, while integrating environmental considerations into product design and manufacturing. A proliferation of chemical content restrictions for electronic products has positively affected the design and manufacturing of our products. Flash memory is an inherently energy-efficient technology. We have enhanced that energy efficiency through our innovative technologies, including MirrorBit® and MirrorBit Quad, which store two and four times as much information per cell, respectively, as most competing technologies of similar size. By designing memory solutions that pack more function into each cell and reducing the size of the device, Spansion products can often replace larger, more numerous devices in a finished product while consuming less energy. Another way we reduce the environmental impact of our products is by using environmentally friendly product packaging and reducing the amount of packaging waste. We routinely scrutinize the materials that comprise our packaging to ensure compliance with appropriate regulations and to identify opportunities for improvement.
