Spansion® Brings Secure, High-Density Storage to SIM marketMemory inside today's SIM cards is low-density, typically 16 to 64 kilobytes, adequate for keeping personal identity information and a small phone book. By adding MirrorBit® ORNAND™ Flash memory inside SIM cards, operators can cultivate new revenue opportunities and channels with the ability to produce specialized content for certain user segments, securely manage rights for digital media, and enable new enterprise applications – all in a form factor compatible with today's SIM cards. Spansion's first planned high-capacity SIM card chip combines MirrorBit ORNAND at 90nm with a strong CPU, cryptography engine, and a Flash file system enabling 1,000 times the storage capacity of today's SIM cards and greater flexibility than their ROM or EPROM brethren. The first integrated MirrorBit HD-SIM product will not be available until 2007. Part of Spansion's secure Flash strategy, designed to embed a range of encryption, authentication and other security features inside Spansion Flash memory, Spansion's MirrorBit HD-SIM solution combines MirrorBit technology with logic in a single, integrated chip that will deliver more storage capabilities to SIM cards and enable new operator-branded content channels. The entire mobile ecosystem will benefit from Spansion's MirrorBit HD-SIM solution.
Spansion is working with a number of wireless ecosystem partners to showcase the power of MirrorBit HD-SIM for applications such as:
